 | Bible Study Feb 14, 2007 |
| This Bible was a replacement for a very old one I had loaned to another person. He loved it so much, that even in his wakening it was beside his bed and said that he studied so much the more. Therefore, I gave it to him and purchased this one. This one is smaller in size, but fit my needs. .The print is easy to read | | | | Solid Study Bible Nov 15, 2006 |
The NJB is a solid study bible, purporting to give the reader the best in terms of scholarship and translations.
In my view this Bible has several advantages, including being quite easy to read (key sections are marked in bold headings outlining the theme of a passage), the English is plain (Paul says we are God's work of Art in Galatians, while in many other Bibles a more roundabout phrase is used) and there are good introductions and notes, and also useful chronologies and information at the back.
Some of the commentary is Roman Catholic in terms of theology and if you are from a Protestant Confession, the NIV study bible might be more suitable. However generally this bible will be useful to most students from any denomination. | | | | Excellent resource Nov 11, 2006 |
| The New Jerusalem Bible edited by Henry Wanbrough is a fine version of the Bible. The translation both carries the sense of the original languages and re-presents the text in beautifully readable English. The blue bound book is sturdy and attractive (the displayed book jacket is perhaps not its finest feature) | | | | A Really Good Book Nov 9, 2006 |
| This is the Bible for those who really want to understand what the words mean and the context in which they were written. It stands well on its own or makes an excellent addition to the old favorites like the KJ and RSV or new RSV. This edition, with page-by-page annotations and informative essays introducing each book, is the one to get. The extra money is well worth it. | | | | Excellent translation. Nov 9, 2006 |
| I was pleasantly surprised by this translation. I bought it while taking a class on the Bible as Literature at the community college. I own several other Bible translations including NAB, NIV, and KJV. The New Jerusalem Bible was easy to read and understand and only included comments when absolutely necessary. This can be a plus or a minus depending on what you are using it for. I believe on reading multiple translations. This is a fine addition to my collection. | | | Write your own review about The New Jerusalem Bible: Standard edition
